Covenant
Roleplaying in the Cradle of Civilization

Covenant is the first roleplaying game being designed by Tastes Like Phoenix Games; it will first become available on-line at this site, and if results  prove positive, will make its way into print.

Covenant takes place in Olam, the crossroads of civilization. The political climate is much like our Middle East was several thousand years ago. Olam draws from a lot of  late Bronze Age history and classical literature such as the Iliad and Odyssey, the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Egyptian Book of Thoth, and Persian and Nubian mythology. But the most thorough source of inspiration you can find in any hotel room in the United States. It's the Old Testament of the Bible.

In other words, Olam is not a very nice place.

It's harsh desert between the river valley civilizations, and laws have only recently begun to be recorded. Kyprian marauders sail the coasts in their dark ships, and Shushani courtiers overthrow their kings in bloody coups. When Ta-Maat's rivers flood, plagues wrack the land, and no one wants to describe the tastes of the predators running the streets of Gomorrah. It's enough to make you turn to the gods.

        And they will be there.

Without a doubt, these deities are real. Mithras and Ra, Astarte and Baal, theirs and a hundred other idols fill the hearths of every nation, every town, worshipped in a thousand different ways. But whether the gods bring rain or fertility, sunshine or war, they demand sacrifices in return. It could be a lock of your hair, a shekel of silver, five hundred fatted calves, or even the pledge of your first-born child.

And if you are to be a hero, if you are to face down the demonic Nephilim and the chariots of the Philistines, if you are to free the slaves who build the pyramids even now, or win the love of the woman whose face launched a thousand ships, or bring your truest friend back to life, you must first know what you believe. For there are miracles everywhere.

Which is your One True God?

        And who is Its prophet?
